Beginner's guide to crocheting

Learn to Crochet with Kristy — Beginner Class

In this cozy and confidence-building crochet class, you’ll learn how to hold your yarn and hook comfortably, tie a slipknot, work a chain, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, treble crochet, and how to read a simple pattern. We'll talk yarn anatomy (yes, it's a thing!). We’ll also chat tools, fiber types, next steps, and how to avoid common pitfalls that trip up new crocheters (spoiler: yarn chicken is real).

Skills Needed:

None! This class is absolutely beginner-friendly. Whether you’ve never touched a crochet hook or you haven’t picked one up since your grandma tried to teach you in 1983, you’re welcome here.

Materials:

All materials are provided!

A non-refundable $15 materials fee is included in your ticket price. This helps your instructor prep quality supplies in advance, so everything’s ready for you on class day. If life throws a wrench in your plans and you need to cancel, we totally get it — but the materials fee is nonrefundable.

Kristy has been crocheting since 2007 and teaching fiber arts for nearly two decades. Her fiber journey began when her mother taught her to knit on Christmas Day 2004 — and she's been hooked (pun intended) ever since. With experience as a technical editor, sample maker, custom designer, and Artist-in-Residence, Kristy brings a deep well of knowledge, quirky joy, and compassionate instruction to every class. She's also a Navy veteran living with C-PTSD, who considers crochet and knitting both creative therapy and divine calling. Every stitch she makes is rooted in prayer, gratitude, and the quiet art of healing.

As an instructor, she’s methodical but flexible. Kristy adapts to your unique hand mechanics and learning style (because let’s be honest — no two people hold a hook the same way, and that’s okay). Past students describe her as calm, encouraging, and remarkably good at helping things click where other classes haven’t. She’s here to make sure your first crochet experience is both successful and fun — ideally with a few good laughs along the way.

Crafting community… one stitch at a time.

Important Note:

This class is intended for adults only. The techniques taught require a level of hand dexterity and sustained focus that may be tricky for younger learners. Keep an eye on the calendar for youth-specific classes. Private and small group instruction available by request.
